Flavored Coffee
Flavored coffee, in very simple terms is coffee that has been made more appealing and tastier by adding different flavors. It is human nature to make a good and sweet thing such as coffee be more appealing. In the beginning, flavoring coffee was made using cardamom, cinnamon and sometimes pepper. However, times have changed and people have had many varied tastes and preferences.
There are seven common divisions in flavored coffee namely Vanilla, Nuts, Caramel, Fruit, Chocolate and distilled spirits. Note that these flavors can be presented in combinations or singly. Chocolate flavors include Chocolate cherry, Bavarian chocolate and Chocolate Hurricane. Under the fruit flavors, we have Blueberry Cream, Raspberry flavor, Apricot cream and Orange Flavor. Spice Flavors feature pumpkin spice, cinnamon hazelnut and pumpkin spice.
On the other hand, lovers of Nut flavors are likely to find the nut flavored coffee featuring hazelnut, toasted almond, Hawaiian Hazelnut and Southern Pecan. Similarly, Vanilla flavors commonly feature Vanilla nut and the French Vanilla. Lovers of Caramel flavors will also not be disappointed because there will be choices of either Crème Brulee, butterscotch Toffee or Pralines and Crème. Finally, the distilled spirits and whiskey present you with four choices of flavors to choose from namely; Irish Crème, Highlander Grogg, Buttered Rum and finally the famous Amaretto.
Many questions tend to arise about flavored coffee. Questions such as how these flavors are made, how they are added to the coffee and if the flavors add calories? Basically, some of the flavors can be derived from the natural growing plant itself. However, many of the flavors are made by imitating the components of aromatic flavor and natural oil of a specific taste. Adding the flavors is simple and takes less time. It is advisable that one should only flavor coffee in use in order to have them remain fresh.
Roast only the amount you require, and then add the flavors, which are normally in liquid form. Flavoring is basically done by weight. For instance, one pound of freshly roasted coffee should be flavored with half an ounce of the flavor of your choice. Stir the coffee beans well after adding the flavor to have an even coat. Depending on the use of the coffee, keep the coffee in air tight containers or seal it off immediately to maintain freshness. In conclusion, flavored coffee does not add any calories. Many people will really question if the calories are appreciable but they are not.
